Meet Our Leadership Team

Empowered Women Empowering Others

Our club is proudly women-led. We run the club on a voluntary basis because we love chess. Each of us brings unique strengths—whether it's coaching, organizing events, or mentoring new members—and together, we’re building a vibrant community that champions both skill development and representation in a traditionally male-dominated space.

Unleashing Greatness Together

At Yas Queen! Chess club, we are more than just players; we are a family bound by our passion for strategy and camaraderie. Our vibrant team members, hailing from diverse backgrounds, contribute their unique skills and perspectives to create a welcoming and empowering environment for everyone. Explore the compelling stories behind our enthusiastic players and the moments that make our club a place of growth and joy.

Tridevi

Chair

Tridevi started playing chess online in 2020 and OTB in the summer of 2024. She is starting to take chess more seriously after having played (and won!) her first standard chess tournament. Tridevi is deeply committed to diversity; she previously co-chaired the diversity and inclusion student committee during her time at Harvard. Tridevi has lived in 6 countries and recently moved to London with her tabby cat Totoro.

Merle

Secretary

Merle started playing chess as a teenager. Taught by her brother who played in his school's chess club. He was determined to practice so taught his little sister to play chess. Merle was not so keen at the beginning but as an adult started to love it. Since 2022 chess has become a bit of an addiction, in a good way! A fun memory from 2025 is a chess camp with the other organisers in the Cotswolds. A full weekend full of chess and puzzles! Outside of chess, Merle is a keen badminton player and loves to decorate cakes.

Lisa

Event coordinator

Annalisa (Lisa) learned chess as a kid from her grandpa and dad, both puzzle enthusiasts. She played online for over 10 years and joined her first OTB tournament in Italy (placing second!). Now in London, she is chasing rating goals, co-building inclusive chess spaces and playing whenever she finds a chess set. Outside of the board she is a tv and movie buff, loves playing videogames and cooking (GF stuff).
